palm: A firework that bursts into a shape similar to the top of a palm tree.

peony: A round firework burst in which shells burst out from the center. Similar to the chrysanthemum except that the peony shells do not leave trails.

pyrotechnic: Any item that produces light, smoke, noise or heat due to an internal chemical reaction.

Revolutionary War: The war fought between the 13 original American colonies and Great Britain for American independence. The Revolutionary War lasted from 1774 to 1783.

ring: A firework that bursts into a ring of stars.

Roman candle: A cardboard tube that, once ignited, shoots fireballs 15 to 50 feet in the air at intervals.

salute: Also called a maroon, a firework designed to create a loud bang.

shell of shells: A firework where the main shell contains additional shells that ignite when the main shell bursts, producing yet more bursts.

skyrocket: A firework that launches by a solid rocket motor.

spider: A firework shell that generates a small amount of large stars. When the stars burst, they do so asymmetrically.
